Ingredients for 2 portions
180 g White wheat bread
100 g Cooked ham
160 g Pineapple flesh
100 g Emmental with vegetarian rennet
15 g Butter
Method
Heat the oven grill to medium-high. Toast four 45 g slices of plain white wheat bread until lightly crisp. Divide 15 g softened butter over the slices. Trim and dry 160 g fresh pineapple into four thin pieces, then portion 100 g cooked ham and 100 g sliced Emmental cheese into four piles.
Place one quarter of the ham, pineapple and cheese on each toast, with cheese on top. Set the toasts on a baking tray and grill for about 5–8 minutes, watching continuously, until the cheese is melted and lightly golden. If using a conventional oven instead of a grill, allow extra time.
Serve two hot toasts per person. Use ready-to-eat cooked ham from a sealed pack and follow its storage guidance; check the bread, ham and cheese labels for actual allergens and ingredients.
Based on essen & trinken’s 20-minute Toast Hawaii. This home version uses measured fresh pineapple rather than canned rings, vegetarian-rennet Emmental rather than Gouda, and omits the optional cocktail cherries. It is omnivore because of cooked ham. The photograph shows only one toast, and cannot confirm the pineapple form or cheese. The 20-minute estimate assumes the oven grill heats while the bread and toppings are prepared and has not been kitchen-tested.
