Ingredients for 2 portions

Method

  1. Peel and core the apples, then grate one half and finely dice the rest. Weigh the dry oats and raisins.
  2. Combine oats, grated apple, salt and water in a saucepan. Bring gently to a simmer, stirring to prevent sticking.
  3. Add diced apple and simmer for 6–8 minutes, stirring frequently, until the oats soften. Add a little more water if the mixture gets too thick.
  4. Divide between two bowls and scatter the raisins on top. Let cool slightly before eating.

A simple Haferbrei variation for the German collection. Uses water, not milk; no yogurt or honey topping. The reference photograph has rum-soaked raisins; this recipe uses plain raisins without alcohol. Oats carry a gluten flag. Timing and energy are editorial estimates, not kitchen-tested by Schmackig.
