Ingredients for 2 portions

Method

  1. Whisk 100 g flour, 100 g egg, 100 g milk, 15 g sugar and 1 g salt into a smooth batter. Peel and core apples to give 400 g edible fruit; cut into roughly 1 cm rings and pat dry.
  2. Heat 15 g rapeseed oil in a large nonstick frying pan over medium heat. Dip half the apple rings fully in batter and lay them in the pan. Fry about 2–3 minutes per side until the coating is golden and the apple begins to soften. Transfer to a rack or paper towel.
  3. Heat the remaining 15 g oil and fry the remaining rings the same way. Divide between two plates and dust with 5 g icing sugar per person. Serve hot.

Based on Tirol Werbung’s Apfelradln. The source suggests a thicker 2 cm cut, optional rum and frying fat; this quick alcohol-free adaptation uses 1 cm rings and 30 g measured rapeseed oil. The full oil amount is counted conservatively although some may remain in the pan. This is a sweet snack or dessert, not a complete breakfast or planner meal. The photo shows apple rings with sugar; exact pictured batter and fat are unknown. Cooking time and calories are editorial estimates.
